Abstract

Since 2012, the goverNMent of the People’s Republic of China has implemented a political discourse aimed at redefining its relations with the United States: the New Model of Great Powers Relations (NM). China offered the NM to structure the Sino-US relations based on politically symmetrical terms. A basic component of the Model is the mutual respect of the mega-regional integration projects promoted by both powers: something relevant for the China’s Belt and Road Project. This research describes the path of Sino-US political relations during the years 2005-2017. the period that contributed to structure the NM. Likewise, the article describes the limits of the Chinese discourse and the risks for the bilateral relationship.
