Abstract

JIMENEZ JIMENEZ, Magda Catalina. “With or without You”. The Relationship between Social Movements and Political Parties during the Colombian National Elections of 2018. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2022, vol.67, n.244, pp.363-398.  Epub Apr 17, 2023. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2022.244.69937.

The national election of 2018 in Colombia, the first of the transitional process, marked an increase in social mobilization and, for political parties, entailed the search for votes or electoral coalitions in order to be elected. This process required adjustments in organization, action, and discourse, which determined various types of relationships. Analyzing these relationships allows for identifying the type of mobilizations, the candidates of social organizations registered within the lists of parties for Congress and the type of programmatic content that included direct demands of social organizations. Using the grounded theory methodology and the use of independent variables, this article identifies the adaptations, strategies, discourses, and number of candidates that managed to be chosen in a context of polarization and uncertainty.

Keywords : social mobilization; national elections; political parties; types of relationships; social leaders.
