Abstract

RAMIREZ GONZALEZ, Karen. Volatility and Electoral Fragmentation in the Elections for the Executive and Legislative Branches in Morelos, Mexico. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2022, vol.67, n.244, pp.429-456.  Epub Apr 17, 2023. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2022.244.76984.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the transformations of the party system in Morelos, from the fall of the PRI’s hegemony until the last elections in 2018. This will be done by calculating the volatility and fragmentation of votes to show the effective number of parties, both in the executive and in the legislative. The research concludes that the party system in Morelos has tended towards moderate pluralism with volatile electoral bases, with no political force having the capacity to impose itself on the rest for a long time.

Keywords : party system; political parties; Morelos; electoral fragmentation; electoral volatility; effective number of parties.
