Abstract

TREJO BARAJAS, Dení. The struggle for free trade towards the end of the viceroyalty: Nueva Galicia and the Internal Provinces against merchants of Mexico City, 1811-1818. Estud. hist. novohisp [online]. 2014, n.51, pp.107-130. ISSN 2448-6922.

By developing a case study that analyzes how conjunctural measures allowing free trade were adopted in the port of San Blas and other coastal areas of northwestern New Spain during the period of the war of Independence, we were able to trace the history of the conflict that emerged between the merchants in the powerful consulates located in Mexico City and Veracruz and the authorities and commercial corporations in northwestern regions of New Spain.

Keywords : free trade; commercial monopolies; Independence war; Internal Provinces; XIXth century.
