NAVARIJO ORNELAS, María de Lourdes. La naturaleza alada en el lenguaje pictórico. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2006, vol.28, pp.83-100. ISSN 0185-2574.

Nature has played a decisive paper in the development of most of the human activities. It is for this reason that an analysis of the mural painting is made where images of birds figure, with the purpose of establishing the diversity of represented species also that certify the importance of the means, the symbolism is evaluated granted to formulate the pictorial message. For this purpose one works with the murals and fragments of six archaeological places of the Mayan area, like a representative sample. Twenty eight species of birds were detected, represented by 44 individuals (16 species are recognized as individuals and the remaining ones were determined by means of the feathers in headdresses and decorations). Here is carried out a comparative analysis of the 16 species that allows to propose the existence of a selection code for their participation in the pictorial, same language confirmed with the different inscribed symbolic associations, that redounds in the importance of those and of the means in the Mayan thought.
