Abstract

MEDINA UN, Martha  and  QUINONES VEGA, Teresa. Peregrinando por los santuarios de la península de Yucatán. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2006, vol.27, pp.165-180. ISSN 0185-2574.

This work revises different theoretical and ethnographic approaches about the pilgrimage-sanctuary binomial that has served as analytical model of studies about the religious phenomenon in the Yucatan peninsula, specifically among the peninsular Mayans. The investigations show the presence and standing of the Mayan cosmo vision; and due to the peregrine practice towards a sanctuary exceeds the religious scopes and allows understanding mechanisms of the Mayan ethnic groups in order to create and recreate their culture, strengthen their identity and "legitimating" a territory in a symbolic way.
