Abstract

GALINDO TREJO, Jesús. Un análisis arqueoastronómico del edificio circular Q152 de Mayapán. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2007, vol.29, pp.63-81. ISSN 0185-2574.

The round building Q152 at Mayapan has been often considered as an observatory similar to El Caracol at Chichen Itza. In this study I present a meticulous archaeoastronomical analysis which shows that this structure is rather a calendric-astronomical observatory. It signalizes the arrival of certain important dates which divide the year according to fixed day counts. These counts are expressible by numbers defined through some characteristics of the Mesoamerican calendrical system. This building represents a splendid example of an unchanging practice which was valid in Mesoamerica during some millennia.
