Abstract

MORALES DAMIAN, Manuel Alberto. Uinicil te uinicil tun. La naturaleza humana en el pensamiento maya. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2007, vol.29, pp.83-102. ISSN 0185-2574.

Uinicil te uinicil tun is a recurrent diphrasism of the Ritual of the Bacabs. Produced by ritual expression, the double image reiterated throughout the document -a man of wood and a man of stone- is a particular source of religious language explaining the cosmic dimension of human existence with both symbols. Tree and stone serve as symbolic vehicles to explain man himself. The main goal of this paper is to identify the key elements of what mankind is from the Maya religious perspective.
