Abstract

RUIZ AGUILAR, María Elena. Stucco Smoothers in the Maya Area. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2019, vol.54, pp.43-63. ISSN 0185-2574.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ecm.2019.54.987.

Up to now archaeological attention has focused mainly on monumental architecture: building and plaza distributions, construction systems, and general decoration, especially elements such as facades, roof combs, friezes, and vaults among others. However, tools and implements employed in the construction process, and in the final details of both ceremonial and residential structures, have been left aside. This study presents a summary of examples these artifacts reported in the Maya area and thoughts on their implications in the evaluation of Prehispanic architecture.

Keywords : Smoothers; tools; technology; plaster; Tikal.
