Abstract

ZALAQUETT, Francisca et al. Proposal of Characterization and Origin of Sound Instruments Excavated in Structures II and III of Calakmul, Campeche. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2019, vol.54, pp.155-190. ISSN 0185-2574.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ecm.2019.54.983.

In this paper we present an interdisciplinary study of the sound instruments excavated in Structures II and III in Calakmul, Campeche, which are composed of complete and fragmented aerophones (wind instruments). We applied to these instruments acoustic, organologic and chemical analysis, in order to evaluate their possible provenience and postulate some interpretations about their context of use. It is a work with new methodologies of analysis in prehispanic sound instruments (acoustical, archaeological and physico-chemical analysis).

Keywords : Maya; musical instruments; figurines; archaeoacoustics; Calakmul.
