Abstract

GARRIDO ASPERO, María José. The Celebration of the Conquest of Mexico City during the War of Independence. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2004, n.27, pp.5-34. ISSN 0185-2620.

This article examines the political meanings attributed to the holiday that commemorated the conquest of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, during the Independence war. Here it is outlined that the various capital authorities reflected through their opinions on the holiday the position that each one assumed before the great topics outlined by the liberal political revolution. Also, it proposes that those diferences motivated that the annual commemoration of the conquest was converted in one more setting of the political rivalries that then put face to face the groups in struggle by the power in Mexico city.

Keywords : holidays; independence; liberalism; ayuntamiento; conquest; Mexico city.
