Abstract

PEREZ-RAYON, Nora. France and Militant Anti-Clericalism in the Press. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2005, n.30, pp.111-144. ISSN 0185-2620.

In this article, the author analyzes the vision the Mexican press transmitted its readers about the clash between the two Frances -the Catholic and the anticlerical republican- in one of its more critical historic periods, the first years of the twentieth century. In this case we select newspapers, published during the Porfiriat, representative of different political-ideological tendencies -the pro-government liberalism (El Imparclal), the opposing liberalism (Dlarlo del Hogar), as well as catholic press (El Tiempo) - that permit us to know the discursive imaginaries that transmitted its readers on this matter.

Keywords : Porfirian press; Mexico-France relations; laicism; secularization; anticlericalism.
