Abstract

CORDOBA RAMIREZ, Irina. Being a cross-border worker. The Experience of Antonio González. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2021, n.62, pp.245-267.  Epub May 16, 2022. ISSN 0185-2620.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iih.24485004e.2021.62.77128.

This work is based on an interview with Antonio González conducted in November 2009 at Centro de los Trabajadores Agrícolas Fronterizos (CTAF) in El Paso, Texas. The interview is a part of a research about workers recruitment within the Bracero Program. The interviewed tells his experiences after signing several labor contracts within the framework of the Bracero Program and, after its conclusion, his ensuing experiences in a circular migration process for several decades, until he acceded the residence and the citizenship under the Simpson-Rodino Law. His testimony, like those of many temporary workers, shows the complexity of the immigration process in contrast with the legal frameworks designed to regulate it.

Keywords : agency; bracero; illegal; inmigration policies; return migration.
