Abstract
ESCRIG ROSA, Josep. "The Sin of Revolution" Fray Mariano López Bravo y Pimentel and the Reactionary Interpretation of Spanish American Independence (1820-1822). Estud. hist. mod. contemp. This paper seeks to shed an unusual glimpse on the Spanish American independence processes from the anti-liberal reactionary perspective. It specifically focuses New Spain/Mexico in the earlies 1820 in the context of a broader spatial and chronological dynamic which refers to the political realities of the Spanish Catholic Monarchy. In order to achieve this, two almost unknown documents of Fray Mariano López Bravo y Pimentel are analyzed. In them, he explained and justified the independence reasons based on counter-revolutionary arguments, and tried to make them reach King Fernando VII and the Spaniards.
