Abstract

This article presents the first part of a research project that was conceived during the strike movement that grinded the UNAM to a halt between april 1999 and february 2000. It offers the analysis of the interviews made to two groups of CCH (Colegio de Ciencias y Humanidades, i.e. Sciences and Humanities College) students. The interviews -open, semi-structured or group interviews- were organized along axes of analysis that could recount the students' personal situation, their position towards the strike movement and its principal actors and their opinion about remaining at the UNAM or searching for other educational options. The purpose was absolutely not to construct an explication about the movement, but rather a kind of «snapshot» of this group of young men and women for whom the strike represented an important and unexpected event that broke into their lifes.
