Abstract

RUIZ LARRAGUIVEL, Estela. Las nuevas tareas de los ingenieros en las industrias manufactureras: Hacia la desprofesionalización de la ingeniería. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2004, vol.26, n.104, pp.57-78. ISSN 0185-2698.

This paper analyzes the results produced by a research about the training of engineers and their professional performances within factories in Mexico City. They show that the changes in production technologies and in the organization made by the Mexican industry have as result that the engineers have to carry out all kind of duties and functions required by the company, even when those have nothing to do with the engineer's training. The conclusion is that these new tasks given to the engineers threaten to distort the professional identity of engineers as experts in technology, leading engineering to its deprofessionalization and placing the engineering schools in a huge conflict situation when time has come to define a suitable educational project.

Keywords : Techonological education; Training of engineers; Productive restructuring; Relation higher education-labor world.
