This article is an approach to the study of one of the institutions which built up the Mexican educational system during the second half of the nineteenth century in the State of Mexico: the tutor schools or pedagogical schools. The author offers several reflections about the relevance and the function carried out by those schools as a mechanism to spread, teach and learn pedagogical discourses, knowledge, methods and practices, which came up to the needs, purposes and expectations that gave birth to the so-called "modern " school.
