Abstract

CANO RUIZ, Amanda  and  VACA URIBE, Jorge. Initial uses and misuses of the strategy "Digital Abilities for All" in the secondary schools of Veracruz. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2013, vol.35, n.142, pp.8-26. ISSN 0185-2698.

The authors present the advances made in an ethnographic study documenting the incorporation process and initial usage of the strategy "Digital Abilities for All," in the subject of Spanish, in televised educational transmissions to two indigenous-community secondary schools and one general secondary school in Veracruz. They comment on how the school personnel received the technological equipment, built up expectations on its usage, and developed several activities and school practices. The authors found that although there was a certain level of enthusiasm resulting from the provision of the equipment and the planning carried out with regard to its daily usage, this enthusiasm dwindled due to a lack of back-up advice, support, Internet connection and institutional conditions to facilitate the incorporation of the equipment into the classroom environment; also observed was the fact that the media classrooms where the technological equipment was installed remained closed and, in some cases, were employedfor the school's administrative work, thus resulting in sporadic educational usage.
