Abstract

PIERELLA, María Paula. Professorial authority in the contemporary university: Contributions for consideration regarding present-day transformation. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.145, pp.140-156. ISSN 0185-2698.

At present, the issue of authority is a problem area whose research allows tracking and thought on the link between juvenile status (as a territory of experiences in which tensions can be observed throughout the processes of transmission and cultural heritage) and the university institution. This paper presents a theoretical development of the concept, firstly recovering discussions which initiated with the start of modernity, understood as a particular condition of history that questions the traditional ways of understanding authority. Then, the transformations regarding the authority observed in present-day educational institutions are covered. Finally, the paper puts forward considerations regarding the vision of the students from the National University of Rosario on the authority of the teaching staff, taking into account their interpretations on the relationship between students and teaching staff, characterized by the asymmetry in the field of knowledge.

Keywords : Authority; Higher education; Professional recognition; Student-teacher ratio; Autonomy.
