Abstract

DIDOU AUPETIT, Sylvie. La internacionalización de las universidades mexicanas hacia Asia del Este. ¿Una modalidad de cooperación Sur-Sur?. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.163, pp.159-175. ISSN 0185-2698.

This article documents and studies the status of academic cooperation between universities in Mexico and East Asia. It places this cooperation in the context of an international academic cooperation dependent on the United States and the countries of central Europe. Based on secondary sources and interviews, the author analyzes mobility and inter-institutional agreements, which are the two best documented internationalization activities. Mexico-Asia cooperation is seen as in transition, due the process of consolidation and the fact that it is no longer based exclusively on studies of the area, but on the interests of academic groups. The paper argues that reinforcing these forms of specialized and discipline-specific university cooperation can provide a way to diversify the scope of international academic cooperation, bolstered by a South-South perspective, even though this will require overcoming organizational, intercultural and strategic obstacles as well as shortcomings in institutionalization.
