Abstract

POGLIAGHI, Leticia; MENESES REYES, Marcela  and  LOPEZ GUERRERO, Jahel. Student mobilization against violence in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (2018). Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2020, vol.49, n.193, pp.65-82.  Epub Aug 21, 2020. ISSN 0185-2760.  https://doi.org/10.36857/resu.2020.193.1036.

The article problematizes the student mobilization against violence in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM by its acronym in Spanish) in September-October 2018, detonated by shock groups which led to the demonstration against this and other forms of violence, in particular gender violence, the democratization of the university and free education. The chronicle of the mobilization, the analysis of the demands and the institutional responses are presented. It is concluded that, although the mobilization decays, it remains latent and, if problems are not addressed at the root, a new event can trigger another cycle of protest, as verified in May 2019.

Keywords : Young people; Student mobilization; Shock groups; Violence; University.
