Abstract

GONZALEZ EQUIHUA, Rodolfo. Heliodorus of Emesa and the Progymnásmata by Aelius Theon. Nova tellus [online]. 2014, vol.31, n.2, pp.147-158. ISSN 0185-3058.

This paper analyzes the influence of the Progymnásmata in Helio dorus’ Aethiopika and shows how most of the topics or literary forms used by the author in the composition of his work come from his own readings and school excercises. This way, literary sources and procedures would be determined by Greek school tradition and its repertory of literary forms organized according to their rank and relevance along the structure of the novel.

Keywords : Heliodorus of Emesa; Aethiopica; Progymnásmata; ancient Greek novel; Greek education; Greek literature.
