Abstract

LOPEZ CRUZ, Paula. The Participation of Women in the Plebeian Struggle: with Reference to the Story of the Fabia Sisters (Liv., VI, 34, 5-11). Nova tellus [online]. 2018, vol.36, n.1, pp.29-41. ISSN 0185-3058.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2018.36.1.783.

Studies about Rome of the archaic period have traditionally not recognized the intervention of women in political, social and cultural movements. However, recent studies about the role of women have highlighted their collaboration in the construction of society. In light of this recognition, this article offers a new interpretation of the dialogue between patrician Fabia Minor, who married a plebeian Roman, and her father Fabius Ambustus. The author argues that this dialogue reveals the participation of Fabia Minor in the plebeian struggle, which in 367 BC finally gaved access to consulship.
