Abstract

PEREZ MORO, David. An Approach to the Scorialensis Metaphrasis of the First Book of the Iliad. Nova tellus [online]. 2023, vol.41, n.2, pp.11-32.  Epub Oct 02, 2023. ISSN 0185-3058.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2023.2.41.2/00x38s001.

The study of the Byzantine metaphrases of Homer’s Iliad has advanced too gradually in the last century, for this reason many of these rewritings continue to be unstudied today. The aim of this article is to make a first approach to one of the unpublished byzantine metaphrases of the Homeric poem. To achieve this objective, we will analyze the first book of the metaphrase starting from the manuscripts that contain it. Furthermore, the sources and the methodology of its author will be examined, as well as the importance of this metaphrase by comparing it with other rewritings of the Homeric poem. This analysis allows to conclude, firstly, that the metaphrase called bodleiana is composed of three different versions; secondly, that the author was inspired by the Iliad’s scholia as a source to make his work and, finally, that this work was used for the preparation of the later rewrites.

Keywords : Homer; Metaphrases; Iliad; Scorialensis; Unpublished.
