Abstract

GOMES PEREZ, Jesús Francisco. The Muse learns to Count: Notes for a Numerical Symbolism Approach in Iliad. Nova tellus [online]. 2024, vol.42, n.1, pp.93-108.  Epub Apr 19, 2024. ISSN 0185-3058.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2024.42.1/278500x0100sx035.

In this article we establish the necessary context and theoretical framework for an analytical approach to the use of number symbolism in the Iliad, setting us apart from the critical tradition of the poem which considers number as a purely quantitative resource. We will also catalogue two distinct numerical sequences to seek how their use could affect the course of action within the Homeric work.

Keywords : Homer; Iliad; Numeration; Numerology; Epic.
