In contemporary Mayan culture, death is one of the most complex and rich subjects. Different topics are associated to it. This paper deals specifically with death impersonation topic in three modern short stories from Yucatan Mayans: from the region of Oxkutzcab and Maní, María Luisa Góngora Pacheco's La Pobreza [Poverty]; from Telchac Pueblo, three stories by Andrés Tec Chi collected in the book Cuentos sobre las apariciones en el Mayab [Apparition tales from the Mayab]; and from Maxcanú, Vicente Canché Moo's Cómo una viejecita engañó a la muerte [How did and old lady trick Death].
