Abstract

ILLADES, Gustavo. The tragicomic "God´s greatness" on La Celestina. Acta poét [online]. 2009, vol.30, n.1, pp.85-116. ISSN 2448-735X.

On a diachronic perspective of the seriocomic genres, the experimental form of La Celestina is analyzed; that is, its generic (Comedy / Tragicomedy of Calisto and Melibea) and thematic (divine / human love) heterogeneity, as well as the interaction between both issues. This analysis intends to explain the work's originality as the first dramatic dialog written in Spanish with Latin ascendancy, and giving a leading role to the social underworld for the first time on Spanish cultured work. On the other hand, the experimental form of La Celestina is related to the transmission and reception issues that the first editions faced, since by year 1500 the rising typographic culture struggled against the centennial custom of vocalizing and gesturing literary texts. Finally, a differential decoding is proposed -according to the kind of receptor- of the ultimate sense on the work: the symbolic deicide of catholic God, composed by a New Christian author, via the superposition of two heterogeneous, religious and erotic, semantic fields.

Keywords : La Celestina; God; tragicomedy; reading aloud; gossip.
