This essay raises the question of language inheritance, based on the correspondence between Gershom Scholem and Franz Rosenzweig regarding the secularization of Hebrew language. The author focuses mainly on the relationship between holy language and other, non-religious languages, as well as on the issue of translation, specifically in the text that Rosenzweig dedicates to Luther and his translation of the Bible.
