Abstract

TRAVERSO, Enzo. Melancholic Images. The Cinema of Defeated Revolutions.Translated byMarianela Santoveña. Acta poét [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.1, pp.13-48. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2017.1.768.

This article explores what Antoine De Baecque called history-camera, "a cinematic form of history". I will point out what cinema reveals, beyond the hard data and verifiable sources of historiography, about the end of communist hope. I will do so through films that I consider barometers of leftist consciousness, developers of its dilemas and changes.

Keywords : cinema; history; leftist ideology; memory; utopia.
