This essay examines the development of the Rosicrucian character in the literary field, from its beginnings at the end of the XVIII century in a W. Godwin novel, continuing into the next century with Shelley, Bulwer-Lytton and some occultists (P. B. Randolph, Franz Hartmann y Arnold Krumm-Heller), and finally reaching its zenith in Yeats, Pessoa and Borges.
