Abstract

ORQUERA, Fabiola. Leda Valladares, Poet: Existential Mysticism in a Provincial Literary Field. Acta poét [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.2, pp.101-122. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2017.2.803.

Leda Valladares (1919-2013), a well-known performer and collector of Northern Argentinian coplas, is also known for her work as a poet and song-writer. The corpus studied in this article includes a section of the journal Cántico (1940), the books Se llaman llanto o abismo (1944), Yacencia (1954), Mutapetes (1963), Camalma (1971) and the album Solamente (1964). We will use the first three works to delve into a contemporary mysticism permeated by an existentialist attitude and a provincial and proto-feminist subjectivity, in order to show the particular assimilation of the Occidental culture by non-central writers.

Keywords : Argentinian literature; avant-gardism in provinces; mystic poetry; existentialism; the generation of the 1940s.
