Abstract

TOLEDO, Isabel. Úumbal: The Body Enjoyment as a Scenic Strategy of Reappropriation of Urban Space in Mexico City. Acta poét [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.2, pp.173-189. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2018.2.842.

In this article we explore the political and aesthetic implications of Úumbal: coreografía nómada para habitantes, directed in 2015 by the Mexican artist Mariana Arteaga, with the support of the Museo Universitario del Chopo de la UNAM. Through the bodily enjoyment of a group of citizen volunteers, the Arteaga project proposed the symbolic recovery of the streets of Mexico City, besieged in other collective manifestations by violence and state regulation.

Keywords : performance; dance; choreography; citizen resistance; State violence.
