Abstract

CASTRO ROCHA, Arturo; FERNANDEZ PAVIA, Sylvia Patricia  and  OSUNA AVILA, Pedro. Chili Defense Mechanisms in the Capsicum annuum-Phytophthora capsici Pathosystem. Rev. mex. fitopatol [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.1, pp.49-65. ISSN 2007-8080.

Chili is a worldwide cultivated crop known for its pungent fruits. Phytophthora capsici is currently known to be the limiting factor in the production of many crops, including pepper. This pathosystem has been widely studied yet the problems caused by it are far from being solved, in part due to the variability of the pathogen. The discovery of resistant cultivars (Criollo de Morelos 334) has allowed us to learn more about the mechanisms used by chili plants to defend from this phytopathogen. A great deal of information has been generated about this interaction, therefore the objective of this review is to present the findings about this plant-pathogen relationship to give direction to new research.

Keywords : CM-334; Oomycete; chili wilt.
