This article presents an overview of the literature, forums and congresses related to the field of emblem studies, including a review of bibliographic publications, library catalogues, indexes, corpus, books, authors of works on emblems and systems of dissemination in this discipline. In addition, it discusses theoretical issues, critiques and analyses concerning emblematics. With respect to the interpretation of emblems, it reviews some of the most important tendencies, mentions certain works currently in process and suggests directions for future research.
