Abstract

BECERRA JIMENEZ, Celina G.. The Impact of the Crisis on Two Rural Parishes and Population Movements, 1785-1787. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2010, vol.31, n.121, pp.83-107. ISSN 2448-7554.

This article analyzes the impact of the crisis of 1784-1787 on the region known as the Altos de Jalisco (Highlands of Jalisco). The research was based on an examination of the parish records of two churches that are representative of that area (Santa María de los Lagos and Jalostotitlán), and demonstrates that as a consequence of the crisis people from more remote localities, especially in the countryside, sought to settle in the cities as a means of securing the guarantees required to survive that alimentary and sanitary crisis.

Keywords : mortality; year of hunger; Los Altos de Jalisco; migration.
