Abstract

PEREZ BARAJAS, Alan Emmanuel. The Extended Meaning of Metaphor: An Approach to, and Interpretations of, Fragments of Discourse on Success and Failure Among Older Adults in Colima, México. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.128, pp.71-95. ISSN 2448-7554.

From the focus of sociocultural discourse that emerged from narrative interviews, this text explores the role of metaphor as an element of micro-signification in verbalized discursive series by older adults on success and failure. The study shows how metaphor, as a linguistic-discursive element, licenses and aids in configuring semantic-cognitive analyses of discourse based on macro-propositions that form global meanings or semantic macrostructures that commonly that are rarely considered primordial elements.

Keywords : discourse; metaphor; sociocultural focus of linguistics; semantic macro-structure or global meaning; linguistic-discursive elements; success and failure; older adults.
