Abstract

BETANCOURT MENDIETA, Alexander. Region and nation: two scales for one topic of study. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.130, pp.25-68. ISSN 2448-7554.

This study proposes an analysis of the relational character of the concept of region in historical discourses, specifically those produced within the cultural and political framework of Latin American States where, from the perspective of national unity, region emerges as a source of conflicts. To this end, the essay presents two case studies: the situation of San Luis Potosí (Mexico), and that of Antioquia (Colombia).

Keywords : Regional historiography; Latin American historiography; comparative history; intellectual history.
