Abstract
MATEOS CORTES, Laura Selene and DIETZ, Gunther. Just how intercultural is the "intercultural university"? From the political-pedagogical debate to a case study in Veracruz. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.141, pp.13-45. ISSN 2448-7554.
Intercultural universities, created in the early 21st century in Mexico, are gradually being constituted as part of a new sub-system of higher education. This essay briefly outlines the general tendencies that characterize this emerging sub-system, based on the results of a recently concluded survey of the state of the question, before moving on to examine an illustrative case study elaborated through a collaborative ethnographic project currently being conducted together with one such intercultural university. The text concludes by providing feedback on the debate over the supposedly "intercultural" character of this new educational institution.
