Abstract

MARTINEZ BUENABAD, Elizabeth. Intercultural and bilingual education (IBE) in Mexico: a path towards constructing a democratic citizenry?. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.141, pp.103-131. ISSN 2448-7554.

This study examines linguistic and educational policies in Mexico in different periods, and the legal and juridical reforms implemented in efforts to endow citizens with broader rights and services. However, as the essay develops it shows how these measures will prove insufficient if the national State truly intends to construct a society that is intercultural and inclusive.

Keywords : indigenous and intercultural education; citizenry; diversity; discrimination; democracy.
