Abstract

REYNOSO BAZUA, Abril. Eat to heal: alimentation and medicine in 18th-century Nueva Galicia. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.146, pp.47-81. ISSN 2448-7554.

This article focuses on the medical theory of food in the 18th century and the resulting use of foods as remedies to cure different diseases. Analyzing the specific case of Guadalajara, it explores the qualitative and hygienic conditions of foods in the last quarter of that century, the influence they had on the health of the inhabitants of Nueva Galicia, and their numerous applications in the pharmacopeia of New Spain.
