Abstract
CARDENAS GARCIA, Efraín. Biocultural Archaeology and Patrimonial Co-responsibility. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.148, pp.11-40. ISSN 2448-7554.
This article reviews the academic and official character of Mexican archaeology through brief analyses of concrete cases of projects characterized by initiatives to shift the "studious" discipline of past times towards broader labors that incorporate consideration of current social needs. Though the projects examined reflect distinct research approaches, they coincide in a series of medullar objectives: fostering social participation, the conservation of nature, and promoting sustainable use of cultural goods. The concept of biocultural archaeology applied in the essay refers to diverse experiences while stressing the need to explain the changes and transformations of the society/nature relationship. Hence, it argues that we must protect natural areas and cultural goods in an integral way, while emphasizing that such a modality can only be effective if academia, society and government work together within a structure of co-responsibility.
Keywords : archaeology; biocultural; biodiversity; co-responsibility.
