Abstract

DOMINGUEZ CUANALO, Delia del Consuelo  and  CABRERA BECERRA, Virginia. Community Participation in the Protection of Constructed Patrimony: the Cargo System in the Case of San Bernardino Tlaxcalancingo, Puebla, Mexico. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.148, pp.131-150. ISSN 2448-7554.

This essay presents the results of a research project on traditional religious organizations in which the axis of everyday life is the religious activity that contributes to defining local identities while also supporting community actions to protect patrimony, be it tangible or intangible that, in turn, strengthen the sense of belonging to a certain place and call people to participate in the conservation of all their belongings. In the case of our research, the existence of community religious organizations became relevant when we detected, not without alarm, two important issues related to the conservation of the people's constructed heritage: on the one hand, the large number of properties with significant historical value that still exist in the state of Puebla; on the other, the rapid process of deterioration that is affecting most of them.

Keywords : community participation; protection; constructed patrimony; cargo system.
