Abstract

VENDRELL FERRE, Joan. From James Bond to Social Media: Elements for the Anthropological Study of Desire. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.163, pp.34-57.  Epub June 18, 2021. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v41i163.773.

Based on examples from contemporary popular culture, this article postulates the centrality of desire as a means to understanding human acts and the institutional network that, taken in its entirety, constitutes a society. To this end, it explores two broad perspectives that refer to the study and comprehension of the circumstance we denominate “desire”: one from Jacques Lacan that we consider the “thesis”, the other from Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, which we take as the “antithesis”. In the third section, we propose the possibility of reaching a synthesis. The general objective is to offer conceptual and theoretical tools for an anthropological approach to “desire”.

Keywords : Desire; anthropology; popular culture.
