Abstract
TEJEDA PARRA, Guadalupe and BURGOS FLORES, Benjamín. Influence of Employment on the Subjective Well-being of People in Mexico. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.163, pp.58-81. Epub June 18, 2021. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v41i163.689.
This study examines the phenomenon of the subjective satisfaction, or well-being, of people in Mexico, emphasizing the effect of employment. A database was elaborated by cross-referencing data from two modules of the INEGI population survey: BIARE (Self-reported Welfare), and MCS (Socioeconomic Conditions). The econometric model developed to demonstrate the effects of employment is based on the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. The results obtained allow us to affirm that employment is one of the key determining factors of people’s subjective concepts of well-being. Our findings can contribute to the framing of social policies based on the identification of factors that can help increase individual welfare while challenging those that reduce well-being.
