Abstract

RIVERO HERNANDEZ, Iván. Sociopolitical Organization in the Mixteca in the 16th Century. A Methodological Approach. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.42, n.165, pp.1-18.  Epub Feb 03, 2022. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v42i165.676.

Our understanding of Mixtec sociopolitical organization in the 16th century rests mainly on information related directly to the region, accounts that have allowed several scholars to arrive at similar conclusions though following different paths. There are, however, certain differences that, when taken together, seem to lead to distinct explanations. This paper explores and questions these distinctions by applying two frequently used explanatory models in an attempt to elaborate a novel methodological approach that may improve our understanding of how various Mixtec polities were organized at that time.
