Abstract

CORTES MARQUEZ, Bernardo. The principles of messianism in Emmanuel Lévinas. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.172, pp.7-25.  Epub Aug 11, 2023. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v43i172.966.

In this article, we will delve into the conception of messianism that Emmanuel Lévinas, the Lithuanian-French philosopher of alterity, made in the sixties from the reading and interpretation of the key texts of the Talmud around the notion of messianism. The interpretation that our philosopher makes of messianism points out fundamental elements such as the conception of time, the complete report of messianic time with history, the place of subjectivity behind the figure of the Messiah, aspects that shed light on the ethical-political background of messianism and the particular dialectic that it constitutes.

Keywords : Messiah; messianism; messianic time; ethical subjectivity; messianic dialectic.
