Abstract

MEDINA HERNANDEZ, Andrés. Social organization and kinship of the Mesoamerican milperos. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.45, n.177, pp.149-175.  Epub Apr 05, 2024. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v45i177.1047.

In this essay, it's proposed that the kinship relationships of the Mesoamerican milperos, contained in a specific terminology, express the requirements of agricultural work and the demands of social and cultural reproduction. The fundamental characteristic of the social organization of Mesoamerican communities is the validity of patrilineal, exogamous systems, which constitute larger social units, domestic communities, the basis of the urban societies that make up the ancient history of Mesoamerica.

Keywords : Kinship relationships; Patrilineages; Peasant work; Mesoamerica; Social organization.
