Abstract

BONFANTI, Daniele. Crecimiento impetuoso y desarrollo dependiente. El desarrollo de la vitivinicultura en Canelones (Uruguay) 1898-1954. Secuencia [online]. 2006, n.64, pp.6-28. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i64.949.

From the end of the 19th century onwards, Uruguayan grape growing and wine making developed an exceptional pattern of growth, enabling it to complete the import substitution process within a few decades. This growth was characterized by the concentration of wine cultivation and wine production in the southern provinces of Canelones and Montevideo. The article seeks to describe this process and to analyze some of the hypotheses explaining the latter.

Keywords : Grape growing and wine making; agroindustry; Uruguay.
