Abstract

Description of an interview with Antonio López de Santa Anna, exiled since 1855, by "Amigo", a New York Herald Correspondent who was on his way through Turbaco, the town in Nueva Granada where Santa Anna lived. The interview shows the type of life led by the former dictator, the relations he had with his neighbors and his view of the past and contemporary events.The foreword and notes analyze the answers of the former Mexican dictator, giving the meeting the weight it deserves within the context of US journalism and a specific period in the history of Nueva Granada he witnessed.
