Abstract

MARTINEZ BORREGO, Estela. Global-Local Relations in the Socio-Spatial Transformation of the Los Altos de Morelos Región in México. Secuencia [online]. 2008, n.70, pp.129-166. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i70.1033.

This study explains the dynamics of global-local relations and the way they have marked socio-spatial transformations and the life forms of the settlers that occur nowadays in the los Altos de Morelos región. My hypothesis is that although globalization imposes a series of transformations on the forms of appropriation and use of space, it is the actors themselves who, on the basis of their own life and reproduction strategies, determine the characteristics eventually assumed by social space, conceived of as a región constructed and reconstructed on the basis of the specific practices of its inhabitants, in the constant exchange between global and local approaches. The analytical axes include: the productive structure, particularly the changes in tomato production and its consequences on the transformation of the rural space that gives rise to a phenomenon of "gentrification" to eliminate the settlers' "adaptive strategies" to these processes.

Keywords : Altos de Morelos; "adaptives strategies," tomatoes; new rurality "pluriactivity," the gentrification process; agricultural producion; global-local relations; socio-spatial transformations.
